Our Journey: The History of Rafic Hariri High School
Rafic Hariri High School (RHHS) has a rich and transformative history that reflects its founder’s vision and dedication to education. Established in 1982 by the late Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Hariri, the school began as the New Sidon School in the town of Kfarfalous, located 15 kilometers from Sidon along the Jezzine road.
The school’s initial purpose was to provide quality education to the local community, focusing on developing young minds and preparing them for future success. Set in the serene landscape of Kfarfalous, the school quickly became a beacon of educational excellence, driven by the visionary goals of its founder.
The Move to Saida and a New Name
In 1988, RHHS moved to its current location on Nazih Bizri Boulevard in the heart of Saida. The newly constructed building marked a major step forward in the school’s development, offering improved facilities and greater accessibility to students across the region. In 1992, the school was officially renamed Rafic Hariri High School, honoring its founder’s unwavering commitment to the advancement of education in Lebanon.
This name change signaled a renewed mission—one that aligned the school more closely with Rafic Hariri’s national vision of empowering future generations with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to build a prosperous society. Since then, RHHS has continued to grow in both size and reputation, standing as a pillar of educational excellence in Lebanon.
Expansion and Innovation
From its modest beginnings in Kfarfalous, RHHS has evolved into a state-of-the-art educational institution spread across a 33,000-square-meter campus. The school features purpose-built facilities for each educational division—early childhood, elementary, intermediate, and secondary—as well as modern amenities such as a gymnasium and theater. These spaces reflect RHHS’s commitment to creating a balanced and nurturing environment where students can excel academically, physically, and creatively.
Continuing Rafic Hariri’s Legacy
Throughout its history, RHHS has remained true to Rafic Hariri’s founding vision: providing high-quality education that nurtures well-rounded, compassionate, and forward-thinking individuals. Thousands of graduates have passed through its doors, many of whom have gone on to make significant contributions to Lebanon and beyond.
Today, RHHS stands as a testament to Rafic Hariri’s belief that education is the cornerstone of progress. The school continues to evolve, merging its rich heritage with a forward-looking approach that prepares students for success in a rapidly changing world. With a steadfast focus on academic excellence, student well-being, and community engagement, RHHS remains a guiding force in shaping the leaders and innovators of tomorrow.

Founder’s Vision
Rafic Hariri High School (RHHS) is the realization of the late Prime Minister Rafic Hariri’s vision to establish an educational institution that serves the Sidonian and southern Lebanese community. His aspiration was to provide high-quality primary and secondary education that empowers young citizens to contribute to a brighter future for Lebanon. With the support of Her Excellency Deputy Mrs. Bahia Hariri, Rafic Hariri personally oversaw the development of RHHS, ensuring it would stand among Lebanon’s most modern and respected schools.
Guided by his belief that “Investing in people is investing in Lebanon’s future,” Rafic Hariri’s enduring legacy continues to inspire RHHS’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and community development.
